What is NASSMA?
NASSMA is the North African Summer School in Machine Learning. It is a one-week summer school, which focuses on machine learning and artificial intelligence. Through a combination of lectures and practical labs, the summer school will deliver contents to get started in this field and apply machine learning to your research problems. The summer school is specifically aimed at graduate students, although it is open to everyone. The first edition of the summer school will focus on Deep Neural Networks. The courses will be taught in English.
Why are we organizing NASSMA?
While major advances in AI have largely been developed by actors in Europe and North America, the benefits of AI have yet to be observed in emerging countries. Applying AI to healthcare, agriculture, industry automation, etc… can have significant and immediate impact in such countries. In North Africa and the Arab World, where the youth unemployment rates are among the highest globally, promoting quality education and support of research and innovation is key to foster productivity and drive growth and employment.
In order to raise awareness on AI and its applications, we are organizing the first edition of the North African Summer School in Machine Learning (NASSMA), which will provide fundamental knowledge of AI to students, engineers, and researchers in the field of AI. Moreover, through this event, our aim is to initiate an AI ecosystem in the region and provide a platform to foster collaboration between the different actors in the field, including academic and industrial parties.
